Unfamiliar faces, streets, and places surrounded me when I first moved to Nashville in 2007. I was a total stranger to the city. I didn't know a soul there... not even my roommate (we met on craigslist!) For an entire year, I barely even touched music... even though that was the reason I moved to Nashville in the first place. Most of my time was spent navigating the people and the places around me, trying to find where I best fit in. The size of the city and the feeling of always having something going on around me was a little overwhelming at first. My hometown in Kansas is about 500 people, roughly the size of the neighborhood I live in now. Needless to
say, it took some adjusting.
But, adjust I did, and at some point, inspiration finally hit again and I started reworking my sound and discovering who I was as a singer and songwriter. I released a 5 song e.p. in 2008, and finally... FINALLY, finished a full-length solo album last winter (2010) which I released at the beginning of December. It's called "Into the Sun" and it has 10 songs about
the process of embracing change, finding courage, falling in love and letting go.
From start to finish, it took nearly 9 months to complete the album. It had many ups and downs, but in the end, the time and the energy spent obsessing over every sound, every vocal, and every mix were well worth it. I recorded it with my friend Mark Nash, who did an amazing job co-producing and mixing it. Justin Cary, Devin Malone and Rob Mitchell are the other creative minds who's input and talent helped carve the musical direction of the recordings. I am very grateful to have had many of the songs off of the album placed on numerous tv shows, and I imagine many of you visiting my website are here as a result of those tv placements. I can't say thank you enough for caring enough to listen to these songs and find me online. It means the world to me.
xoxo,
